Claygate Residents Association' has announced Simply Red's lead singer Mick Hucknall will be turning on the Christmas lights in the Parade on Saturday night.
Organisers from the residents' association and the Parade's shops had originally booked Rachel, a contestant from this year's X Factor, but she pulled out leaving them with a last minute dash to find a replacement.
Elmbridge Council offered the services of the Walton Xcel Leisure Complex mascot Elvis the Eagle and Claygate Councillor Steve Wells even considered tricking people with his resemblance to American B-Movie actor Chuck Norris, but after a number of frantic phone calls today, the services of Mr Hucknall, a Weybridge resident, were finally acquired.
Organiser Richard Catling said he was delighted to have booked the pop star.
He said: "Claygate has a reputation of beating all the nearby competition for the best entertainment and the best celebrity. This news shows we have upheld this reputation."
The event, which usually attracts about 2,000 people, starts at 3.30pm and the lights will be turned on a 4.30pm.
Shops will be serving wine and mince pies and there will be a barbecue and fairground rides for children.
Mr Catling also promised an extra surprise on the evening.
He said: "The lights will be going on with a bang."
But he would not divulge any more.
