Walton will be lit up with seasonal cheer this Friday, when school children and community groups displaying lanterns join Father Christmas in the town’s annual Christmas Festival of Light.
The river of light parade, designed by local artist Donagh Curwen, will flow around the town centre from 7pm, leading up to the giant Christmas tree at Studio Plaza, where Elmbridge Mayoress Rosemary Vickers will turn on the lights at 7.30pm.
Shops will be open late for the event, organised by the Walton Business Group (WBG), the Heart and RC Sherriff Trust, and schools, a theatre group and a soloist will put in special appearances from 5pm.
Sarah-Jane Shellard, WBG director, said: “The WBG is delighted that the Festival of Light has become a key part of Walton’s Christmas.
"It is a wonderful community event with lots of fun for the family and great way to show off the wonderful shops and restaurants all around the town.”
