Students at ACS Cobham were cooking up a storm last week as part of a healthy eating workshop hosted by food educationalists Kids Can Cook (KCC).

More than 80 students aged eight and nine took part in the workshop to learn kitchen basics, including knife safety and food preparation.

In small groups, the children from the Portsmouth Road school spent time with chefs Lucy and Cerina Nichamin from KCC, making dishes such as bread, kofkas, salad and kebabs.

The students were encouraged to work together as a group and discuss their food likes and dislikes in order to face their food fears, as well as discussing the impact of our eating habits on the world around us.

Jennifer Davidson, teacher at ACS Cobham, said: “The workshops allow the students to get hands-on experience in the kitchen giving them the chance to develop and enjoy a love of cooking and eating good food, particularly healthy food.

"The students all received a copy of the recipes that they used and will be sharing their new-found talents by cooking a meal for their family as part of a homework assignment.”
