Inexperienced parents are getting tips on how best to bring up their children on a council-run parenting course.
Families are being taught how to develop stronger relationships and learn a new range of skills on the programme, which is aiming to improve family life by getting parents to pass on valuable life skills to their children.
The course is free of charge and consists of 12 sessions which take place in children’s centres and schools across the borough.
It is available for mums, dads and carers living in Wandsworth with children aged between three and 18 years old.
Councillor Kathy Tracey, children’s services spokeswoman, said: “This course teaches parents how to cope with difficult situations and establish their authority in the home.
“It helps mums and dads to break cycles of negative behaviour and help their children develop the self-discipline, self-esteem and confidence they need to succeed.”
Eight parents have already completed the programme at the Southmead Centre for Children and Families.
Participants said the group was helpful and supportive, and that the lessons learned are making a big difference at home, according to the council.
