The Hammersmith Palais could be knocked down and replaced with a students' hall of residence.
The iconic Palais, which opened in 1919 and closed in 2007, held concerts by The Cure, David Bowie, The Rolling Stones and The Sex Pistols.
Developer London & Regional is planning some 429 student studios for the Shepherd's Bush Road property.
A decision on plans, which have been submitted to Hammersmith and Fulham Council, is expected in November.
