The majority of the borough’s GP practices are now offering extended hours following a drive by NHS Wandsworth to improve accessibility.

Now 38 out of 47 surgeries will extend their hours, beyond the standard 8am to 6.30pm, in response to the survey carried out by Ipsus MORI.

Ian Hart, health scrutiny committee chairman, suggested taking a closer look at the amount of cover provided out of hours as this is an area of additional concern to local residents.

He said: “Just under half are now open on Saturday mornings which is well above the London average. The message from the survey is that patients want to see more progress across the board particularly from those practices still offering the basic hours of 8am to 6.30pm.

“We will also want to take a much closer look at the out of hours contract as this is clearly an area which many people feel is not up to scratch.”
