Surrey Police carried out dawn drug raids at six separate addresses in Walton, on Wednesday, September 9.

More than 70 officers and two dog units took part in the raids as part of a community action day in the area.

A 39-year-old man and a 24-year-old woman were arrested on suspicion of possession of class B drugs with intent to supply and cultivation of class B drugs, while a 21-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of supply of class B drugs and a 27-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of class B drugs.

Police also arrested a 24-year-old man on suspicion of possession of class A and B drugs, while a 17-year-old boy was arrested for breaching the conditions of his bail.

A spokesman for Surrey Police said all six people were currently in police custody.

Following the raid, Elmbridge neighbourhood officers carried out house-to-house visits to explain why they were in the area and encourage residents to report any suspected drugs offences.

A police drugs bus, providing information and advice on the dangers of substance abuse, was parked in the area and open to the public to visit throughout the day.

Other organisations, including representatives from Elmbridge Council and the Elmbridge Housing Trust were also present to talk to residents and encourage them to report criminal offences.

Elmbridge neighbourhood inspector Richard Haycock said: “Drugs can destroy communities and Surrey Police aim to work with residents to reduce illegal drug misuse.

“It is only through local people having the courage to report offences and suspicions to police that together this problem can be addressed.

“The work we have done in Walton today is not just about reducing drug related crime, we know that the use of drugs is also inextricably linked to other forms of crime and disorder.

“Offences such as antisocial behaviour and noise nuisance, which can be linked to drug misuse, create a blight on the community and this has an impact on the quality of life for all residents in the area.

“I hope this proactive work demonstrates that Surrey Police will take robust action to reduce drugs offences and that we will act on information and intelligence from members of the public.

“I also want to appeal to members of the public to get in touch if they think they have intelligence about illegal drugs. By calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 they can provide anonymous information about dealers and can make a real difference.”
