A Sutton girl confronted her fear of heights and abseiled down one of the tallest buildings in Britain for charity.

Lisa Taylor, 26, of Lymescote Gardens, roped down the 455ft tall Guys Hospital Tower to raise funds for Marie Curie Cancer Care and collected £238 so far for the charity.

She said: “I wanted to take part as I thought it would be a great way to get over my fear of heights and it’s for a very worthwhile cause.

“When I arrived and saw the height of the tower I was really nervous however the people from Marie Curie were really nice which helped put me at ease. Going down the building was an experience, the view was amazing.

“The hardest part for me was stepping over the edge and leaning back for the first time at 455ft ready to start the decent.

“The overall experience was amazing and I would recommend everyone to have a go, even if you are scared - the thrill of completing such a challenge is a fantastic confidence boost.”

Marie Curie Cancer Care provides high quality nursing, totally free of charge, to give terminally ill people the choice of dying at home supported by their families.

Every £20 raised for the charity pays for an hour of at home nursing care, which is offered free of charge to all patients and their families.

Anyone feeling brave enough to take on the challenge to raise money for Marie Curie can take part in the Epsom Racecourse Abseil, on October 11.
