Southfields youngsters went bananas last Friday as part of a special event for Fairtrade Fortnight.
Children from Sheringdale School in Standen Road helped raise £160 for Fairtrade by selling badges and cakes made from Fairtrade ingredients, while the teachers raced against each other with giant inflatable bananas between their legs.
There were also prizes for the best fancy dress for pupils who came dressed as a Fairtrade product. One of the winners was a bunch of grapes, while another was a banana picker.
Deputy headteacher Jo Robinson who organised the event said: “The kids loved it and it really raised their awareness. Parents have told me their children are now obsessed with looking for Fairtrade stickers in the supermarket, so we definitely achieved our goal.”
