After a mammoth four flights, in planes that got smaller and smaller as we headed north, our last being a 12 seater prop, we have finally made it to Resolute Bay! Our journey took us from London to Ottawa, then onto Iqaluit, from here to Nanismk and then to Canada's most northerly town, Resolute Bay.

The Inuit town of Resolute is little more than the size of a hamlet back in the UK, maybe a small village at a push, with a population of approximately 230 people, the facilities of a school, small supermarket, hotel and its lifeline - the airport!

Charlie and I arrived Thursday night to a pleasant -47ºC, with the aim of making a start on sorting through the freight. Whilst Pen, Martin and Ann stayed on in Ottawa for a further 2 days for some scheduled press conferences, along with Tarka as their French speaking translator and Ian to acquire yet more kit!

Unfortunately the freight is still yet to arrive, so Charlie and I have been working away furiously eating all Randy (the cook) can throw at us…his chocolate brownies are amazing!!

Last night the rest of the team joined us here at Resolute after a very successful conference. We will spend the next 10 days sorting and preparing kit, practicing and rehearsing the various scientific readings we must take, going through weather reading and prediction, working with the pilots to understand exactly what they require from the runways we must build and maintain and finally repeat training exercises such as falling through the sea ice.
