A man in his 30s has been found fatally stabbed in London Road, West Croydon.

Police were called to the area at 6.15pm where they found the man being treated by ambulance officers.

He was taken to a south London hospital but died at 7.08pm.

More than two dozen plainclothes and uniform police were on the scene shortly afterwards.

London Road has been completely closed for 500m near the junction with Westminster Road.

A pile of clothes was near the bus stop outside the Lidl supermarket in London Road.

Police have began a doorknock of the area.

A Met Police spokeswoman said the Homicide and Serious Crime Squad were investigating.

Police have no idea yet as to the motive behind the killing and are still trying to identify the dead man.

An eyewitness said: "I saw the man being resuscitated while he lay lifeless on the stretcher with an intubation tube in his mouth.

"While the paramedics put him in the ambulance they were performing CPR on his chest but he wasn't moving as they loaded the stretcher in to the ambulance.

"I was praying then that he made it."
