Croydon Woolworths to close on Tuesday

Woolworths' longest trading branch, in Croydon is to close on Tuesday after 96 years of trading.

The store opened three years after the US parent company launched the first FW Woolworths in Liverpool in 1909, selling everything for sixpence, 2.5p.

The North End shop lasted a depression, two world wars and numerous recessions but will close, along with many others.

Yes Cr2... and people like you are to blame for voting in the same shower of politicians who do next to nothing to solve the problems you complain of... instead of bleating about the elderly or crime, do some research on alternative political parties - go to google (do you know how to do this ?) type in every political party you've ever heard of... and check out what they have to offer - pick the one that is best for you and stop supporting a political party system your parents voted for - if you want change... don't look to to the main three poltical parties!!

cr2 - let me know who your local beat officer is and I'll report his racist comments to his superiors.

Wow! For the first time ever I am compelled to write. First of all, we have CR2 passing innocent comment only to be attacked from a political stand point by Scoffer - Scoffer, did Santa not bring you what you asked for or is that chip on your shoulder too heavy for you to bear any longer.
Oh and a note to Anne Giles in Selsdon, if they are from Eastern Europe then they will surely be referred to as Eastern European?! Unless that is you have evidence that contradicts what this police officer has been exposed to? It is small mindedness like all of the above remarks/comments that help to give Croydon the reputation that it has and have lead to the country as a whole being in the state it currently is in.

Morning all!! Mmm... a new name has arrived... first of all Anne... it's not racist at all to point out who's doing what when it comes to crime... some time ago I remember you saying that the police were stopping people in lovely Croydon searching people... when I asked if you were searched, you said NO!! and that the police use something like 'intelligence led info' to 'target' certain individuals... that's exactly what they do when gathering information on Eastern European pick-pockets!! I've got someone very close to me in the police force who can confirm certain issues shall we say!!

Secondly, Chrmar - yawn!! get a life, those Christmas cracker jokes are very boring... you're not part of what's been happening on this forum, so I suggest your one and only comment remains just that!!

Morning All.

First of all Scoffer, I 100% agree with Anne, this is a racist comment. The way this comment has been written suggests all Eastern Europeans are thugs/all theft is carried out by Eastern Europeans. Crimes are committed by ALL races, believe it or not. People like yourself and CR2 are living in cloud cuckoo land if you believe differently. People like yourself and CR2 are just sad little people who only feel elevated when kicking someone else. Just imagine what the world would be like if only people like you existed, hmmmm I'd rather not.
Secondly - "you're not part of what's been happening on this forum". Whats that all about? Very territorial aren't you Scoffer, you sad head case, aren't we all allowed to express our views? I do hope you're over 70, it would be a sad, sad world if you're any younger and still hold those pre-historic views. You need to get out more, go-on, make it a new years resolution. Go out and speak to people, you'll then find out race does not make everyone the same!! Best of luck.

Getting back to more important issues rather who's got the biggest kebab in the palace... let's throw the 'racist' tag out of the window in 2009 - the blooming thing has gone full circle anyway... people just yawn, and shrug their shoulders when they hear this word being used to describe things not at all racist - you know one time (about eleven years ago) the word 'racist' was used to shock people... people actually stopped dead in their tracks at being accused of racism... but, because the word has now been 'over-used' to describe trivial, unracist, things, people have got tired and cheesed off hearing it bounded around unnecssarily - let's bury the blooming politically correct word in 2009!! ROFL!!

You would love to throw the 'racist' tag out the window, wouldn't you!! Unfortunately with people like you with your pre-historic minds, that will never happen, sorry....The closure of Woolworths resulted in comments using terms such as 'Eastern European thugs' this also means the 'racist' tag will never be thrown out the window. This 'tag' is not meant to excite or shock anybody, it is simply a description for people who read articles not related to race but somehow manage to slip in their unwanted views. Apologies if the word over-used but it cannot be described in any other way - again, this article was about the closure of Woolworths!!!! I'll leave you mull that one over after you've had another nap. Happy New Year.

Just shsskebab... yummy yum... where was I after my last little nap ?... oh yes... Woolworths - yes indeed it was a hammer blow seeing this fine store close it's doors - but listen, I blame cheap imports for pushing Woolworths into closure - the whole high street is under serious threat with cheap, imported goods - mainly from China/India... people want cheapo goods for a fiver and other companies cannot compete - hence more high street shops closing - even our own company in Dumplington is facing problems with cheaper goods being supplied by other retailers cutting their profit margins... it's dog eat dog i'm afraid... so o.k. we done woolies - what else do you wish to discuss ? or are you going to vanish into thin air and come back as nastyoldonnaTom ? LOL

My youngest nephew is married to an Eastern European lady, who is absolutely lovely. A neighbour is also Eastern European, so I don't like it when a constable takes it upon himself to refer to Eastern European thugs. His superiors ought to know.

I see Westminster City Council has obtained ASBO's against twelve 'agressive' and 'violent' beggers - all eastern european people (Romanian I believe) that's not a slur against the good people of Romania or any other eastern european people - but it was reported that criminals were heading here from these countries once the Labour Party said they were all welcome to the land of milk and honey... with even one local Mayor in Romania saying he was glad all the criminals had left his town - he even described them as 'violent robbers' - our police are right in the thick of it with these people and I think we should support them against the violent criminals who've arrived here instead of worrying about a name that describes perfectly some of them. Happy New Year!! p.s. let's bury political correctness in 2009!!

Sorry if you are offended Ron... but if an old war hero like Cr3 is not allowed to pass some observations on here without being pulled over the burning coals - then it shows you what kind of nasty society we've become!! goodwill to all men springs to mind ? eh ? I think we should all be allowed to post sensible, polite, comments, and start being a tad more respectful to each other on here!!
