A man was rushed to hospital after being shot in a car park in Mitcham.

Yesterday (January 9) at around 3:05pm police and ambulance crews were called to the scene of a shooting in Miles Road in Mitcham.

A man was treated at the scene by paramedics before being rushed to a major trauma centre.

Shortly after the shooting, several males carrying machetes were also found in the area.

The Metropolitan Police has said it is not currently known if the two incidents are linked.

A spokesperson for London Ambulance Service said: “We were called yesterday (9 January) at 3:05pm to reports of a shooting on Miles Road, Mitcham.

“We sent a number of resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, a medic in a fast-response car, and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.

“Our first medic arrived in approximately four and a half minutes.

“We treated a man at the scene, before taking him to a major trauma centre as a priority.”

A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police said: "Police were called at 15:06hrs on Tuesday, 9 January to reports of a shooting in a car park in Miles Road, Mitcham.

"Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance.

“A man was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound. His condition was assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.

“An investigation is under way and enquiries are ongoing.

"Any witnesses are asked to call 101 quoting CAD 3884/09Jan."

The force added: “Shortly after the shooting a number of males in possession of machetes were seen in the vicinity.

“Officers detained three individuals a short time later and inquiries are ongoing. It is not known at this time whether the two incidents are linked.”
