A murder investigation has been launched after the unexplained death of a woman in Surbiton.

A woman, 47, was found unresponsive at a home in Tolworth Broadway at around 12.30am on April 19.

She was taken to hospital by paramedics but later died.

Her family have been informed and a post-mortem was carried out at Kingston Mortuary the following day and no formal cause of death could be found.

Further tests will be carried out to try and establish what has caused her death.

A man, aged 43, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder but has since been bailed pending further enquiries.

He is believed to have been known to the woman.

Police are asking anyone with information that could assist the investigation to call 101 quoting CAD 118/19Apr.

A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police: “Officers from the South West Command Unit are investigating after the death of a woman in Kingston.

“Police were called at 00:29hrs on Wednesday, 19 April after a woman was found unresponsive in Tolworth Broadway, Surbiton.

“Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and a 47-year-old woman was taken to hospital. Sadly, she later died.

“Her next of kin have been informed.

“A special post-mortem took place at Kingston Mortuary on Thursday, 20 April – no formal cause of death was established and further tests will be carried out.

“A 43-year-old man, who is believed to be known to the victim, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder; he has been bailed pending further enquiries.

“At this time the death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries into the circumstances continue.

“Anyone with information that could assist the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 118/19Apr.”
