A man has been taken to hospital after being attacked in an alleyway in Epsom by a balaclava-clad man.

Police were called to Horton Hill at around 2am on April 16 after reports that a victim had been seriously assaulted.

The victim was approached by a man on a bike who was wearing a balaclava.

The balaclava-clad man then hit the victim with an unknown weapon, causing serious facial injuries.

The victim was taken to hospital and is now in a serious but stable condition.

Police are now looking for anyone that witnesses the assault or anyone that has any dashcam or doorbell footage that may help the investigation.

Detective Sergeant Lee Marks said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and have any information that could help our investigation.

"We would particularly like to speak to two men on bikes, who may have seen the victim shortly before the assault.”

Borough Commander for Epsom and Ewell, Inspector Jon Vale added: “We would like to reassure the local community that our officers will be continuing to patrol the area while the investigation into this serious assault takes place.

A spokesperson for Surrey Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses after a man was seriously assaulted in Epsom early on Sunday morning (16 April).

“Police were called at around 2am after reports that the victim had been assaulted in an alleyway on Horton Hill in Epsom.

“The victim was approached by a man riding a bike. The man, who was wearing a balaclava, then hit the victim with an unknown weapon, causing serious facial injuries.

“The victim currently remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

“Enquiries are underway and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the assault, or who has any dashcam or doorbell camera footage or any other information, to come forward.
