Councillor Nali Patel spent August riding her mobility scooter around Carshalton, as part of the Mayor's Summer 1001 Challenge.

The challenge works by choosing a fundraiser with 1001 in mind, this could be 1001 seconds, 1001 steps, 1001 skips.

In Councillor Patel's case, she discovered the beauty around Carshalton parks by spending 1001 minutes riding her mobility scooter last month.

In a fantastic fundraising effort, Councillor Patel raised a whopping £2,171 for the Mayor's two chosen charities, Sutton Mental Health Foundation and Home Start.

The challenge was completed last week Friday ( August 28 ) at the Honeywood Museum, by Carshalton Ponds.

Speaking to Sutton Guardian, Councillor Nali Patel said: "I wanted to help raise funds for the Mayor’s charities, whilst also taking the time to enjoy the range of great local parks in Carshalton.

"Due to my disability, this is the first physical challenge I have ever undertaken in my life.

"It’s been great to get out of the house and make a difference, whilst also getting fresh air and relaxing at the same time.

"I’d like to thank everyone who has supported me throughout the month and all those who have donated to such worthy causes.

"I would encourage everyone to get involved, it’s a chance to get active for a great cause!"

Mayor of Sutton, Councillor Trish Fivey said: "The money Councillor Patel has raised for Sutton Mental Health Foundation and Home Start will have a huge impact on the lives of those supported by the two charities.

"Now more than ever we have to look after our mental health and SMHF do fantastic work in our local community to support those who need it.

"Likewise, Home Start is there to promote the welfare of families with young children."
