An Epsom singer and songwriter’s song made it to Amazon’s Top 10 Hot New Releases.

Hayley Griffiths released her first solo single Aurora last month and the single went straight into the charts on iTunes and Amazon.

Born and raised in Surrey, Hayley early talent was honed at Laine Theatre Arts School. This education helped fine-tune her performance skills in musical theatre and acting.

Despite being classically trained, the former City of London Freemen's student joined UK Prog Rock band Karnataka in 2012. As the bands lead singer, she toured the UK and Europe several times. ‘Secrets of Angels,’ was arguably the bands' pinnacle as it won the Classic Rock Societies album and track of the year in 2016.

However, the band broke up in 2017 and Hayley decided to pursue a solo career and released Aurora in June.

She said: “It was amazing to see my single in the Amazon top 10! The song draws inspiration from the Northern Lights, which is evident in the videos, but it is deeper than that. It is about anybody who has lost somebody but is also a feel good song.

“I have lived in Epsom all my life, I went to school here and did most of my training here. I love it! Everything has gone a bit full circle, I am now a vocal coach at Downsend School and Milbourne Lodge.

“It is great to work with young people in the area and see their talent and love for music.”

Over the next months, Hayley will continue to work on her album, which she hopes will be released next year. She will also be playing at a few festivals this summer.

The singer has not completely left her her classical roots, she still plays classical gigs in a corporate setting. The award-winning Soprano has played at a number charity events and gala balls.

Inspired by the likes of Beyonce and Evanescence, Hayley will continue to forge a music career as an independent artist, something that is made easier in the digital download age.
