A British MMA fighter from Morden is set to make his UFC debut when he steps into the Octagon this week in New York.

Nathaniel ‘The Prospect’ Wood will go up against Brazil’s Johnny Eduardo at UFC Fight Night: Rivera vs Moraes on June 1.

The bantamweight division fighter, 24, currently holds a professional record of 13 wins from 16 bouts heading into the contest.

When asked after making his debut, he said: “I’m feeling amazing, I cannot wait and I’m enjoying the journey. I haven’t got any nerves, I’m confident in my skillset and Fight Night couldn’t come sooner.

“During the walkout I’m just buzzing to get in the Octagon. It’s the culmination of weeks of fight camp and I could just run in there.”

Wood took just 50 seconds in his last fight, at Cage Warriors 92, to successfully defend his title against Italy's Luca Iovine.

Now he wants people to ‘take note’ after this week, with ambitions to get into the UFC’s top 15.

He added: “I haven’t looked too much into Eduardo [his opponent] but I know he has a good record and a tonne of experience. But he is going up against someone in their prime.

"We’ll stand out there and find out whose chin goes first.”

“I’m looking to get out there from the get go. If he wants to meet me in the middle then he is welcome to do that. I’m fresh as a daisy and ready to rock.”

Watch Nathaniel in action at UFC FIGHT NIGHT® : RIVERA VS. MORAES on UFC Fight Pass from 11:30pm BST on Friday, June 1, and catch the rest of the card live on BT Sport 2 from 1am BST early on Saturday.
