A lack of business for a much loved coffee shop has forced the owners to shut up shop for good.

Rossi's Coffee Shop & Sandwich Bar posted a picture on its facebook page saying that "from January 6, closed until further notice."

The people of Coulsdon were left devastated and confused by the announcement.

"Oh no, please don't close Pat, such a great place to eat and meet up with friends," one person wrote on facebook.

"I'm sorry but this looks sadly to me like a final closing," another said.

Others went so far as to try and give ideas that might help save the shop.

"Do a dry January special and maybe a valentines ladies coffee morning?"

But the speculation was put to bed when Rossi's commented once again on why it had made the "difficult decision" to close.

"To give a bit more detail; the trade level over the past six months has not been adequate for us to survive, and hence we have had to make the difficult decision to close for now, so that Pat can move on," the cafe's facebook post wrote.

"Many thanks for all the kind words and reviews received, and for your custom over the past year, it has all been very much appreciated.

"We still have lease term to serve so never say never - but for now Saturday will be the last day we will be open."
