Cheam Park and Recreation Ground has been awarded a Gold in the 2017 London in Bloom competition.

The 'Large Park above 25 acres' was the winning category for the Sutton entry.

The judges said: “The park is well maintained as a sports and recreation space with a play area, bowling and croquet green and café at its heart. Changes have been made in recent years to improve these facilities and it now provides a good multi-faceted service to the public.”

Cheam Life, a mums group, was recognised for organising local events and holding fundraisers for children's facilities in the park including the Christmas Wish Tree.

Councillor for the Cheam Ward, Holly Ramsey, told Sutton Guardian: "Cheam park has always been an asset to Sutton Borough and I am delighted that it has been recognised with a Gold award.

"The Friends of Cheam Park, Ward Councillors, Volunteers and Council officers have worked together to enhance Cheam Park’s beauty. We have recently participated in tree planting schemes and secured funding for a 10 piece equipment trim trail and a path."

Cllr Mary Burstow, Cheam Ward councillor, added: “I am delighted that Cheam Park has been officially recognised as a jewel in the crown of the London Borough of Sutton. It is all thanks to the hard work of so many people who have been determined to make this a first-class community facility.”
