A suspect who allegedly ripped a handbag from around an elderly woman’s neck in Worcester Park is wanted by police.

The victim broke her finger and suffered a suspected broken back after the incident on September 7 near the railway underpass on Dewsbury Gardens off Lynwood Drive at 1.57pm.

Investigating officer, Detective Constable Colin Snell, said: “We want to reassure the public that we are doing everything we can to identify the person responsible for the cowardly robbery of an elderly woman, leaving her with multiple injuries.

“For anyone who may recognise the man in the CCTV images, then please contact us.

“I would advise if you have to walk, avoid short cuts in lonely areas. Please also keep to well-lit busy streets, and consider carrying a personal attack alarm.”

The incident was captured on CCTV.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Surrey Police on 101.
