A Croydon fight team came away with a great result recently at the WKU German Open.

Fighters Brian Kum, Linvell Taylor and Raoanne Carberry from Croydon Martial Arts combined to win three gold medals, two silver and two bronze.

Miss Carbery achieved gold for +65kg advanced light continuous category, Gold for +65kg advanced points and silver for the black belt Kumite category (sports karate). Miss Carbery felt the training in the lead up to the European event was the key to her success.

Mr Kum damaged his foot in his second fight (Kumite) 85kg black belt category but battled on to the finals to win silver. Although advised to pull out of the +85kg senior semi contact (points) and +85kg light continuous kickboxing, Mr Kum decided to continue and achieved bronze trophies in both categories. He was disappointed with the injury but content with the podium finishes.

Mr Taylor's light continuous eased into the finals to then win Gold in a tough fought final.

"I set out to win a British, European and World title this year and I've achieved British and European titles and look forward to the World championships later this year.," Mr Taylor said.

Mr Kum, Mr Taylor and Miss Carbery all entered into Kumite, (sports karate) for the first time with no training or previous experience but managed two silver trophies.

Next up are a range of national competitions leading up to the World Championships later in the year.
