Croydon table tennis players took top honours at a tournament.
Harry Derecki, 11, from Ashburnham, and James Smith, 15, from Whitgift School, each won their respective age groups in the Jack Petchey London & Essex Schools’ Table Tennis singles finals.
Harry went unbeaten in the tournament and was pleased with his performance.
"This is my third time here and I came third and then second last year," he said. "It feels good.”
James had more on his plate than just the tournament, but that didn't seem to bother his game.
"I hadn’t played for over a month and I needed a break from studying for my GCSEs,” he said.
James is the new national champion in junior doubles and is ranked nationally at no 7 at under-18 level.
