Three men who had a huge stash of guns, ammunition and paraphernalia at their homes have been jailed for a total of 15 years.

Brothers Abdullah Ali, 30 and Adam Ali, 21, of Ederline Avenue, Norbury and Roman Nikolajevs, 21, of Eaton Road, Sutton were sentenced today at Croydon Crown Court.

The trio pleaded guilty to possession of firearms at the same court on November 2 last year.

Adam Ali had tried to buy a working gun on the dark web, while his brother Abdullah Ali had a reactivated Lama pistol.

Adam Ali and Nikolajevs then tested the gun in preparation for the pair to use.

Officers raided the Ali brothers' home at around 6am on May 2, 2015, and arrested them in their bedrooms.

In Abdullah Ali's bedroom, they recovered a loaded Llama 9mm handgun which had been deactivated and subsequently reactivated, a deactivated Hungarian FEG 9mm pistol, component parts of an AK47 assault rifle, 54 rounds of live ammunition, potassium nitrate and sulphur - chemicals used in gunpowder - a bullet-proof vest and a number of books about making guns and ammunition.

Detectives seized devices including laptops, mobile phones, USB sticks and discs from around the house.

One disc entitled "Guns" contained survival guides, a US Army survival manual and documents regarding gun making and explosives.

A string of email and text conversations proved that Adam Ali had made numerous attempts to obtain a working firearm, including on the dark web, and had also searched online for pictures of machine guns and handguns.

Adam Ali's mobile contained messages to Roman Nikolajevs in which they discussed unsuccessfully test-firing the Llama pistol on May 10 2015 and May 22 2015.

Forensic analysis of the Llama pistol showed that Adam Ali and Nikolajevs had both handled the gun.

Officers arrested Nikolajevs at his home in Sutton at approximately 6am on May 28 last year and seized all his digital devices.

Each man was jailed for five years for possession of a firearm.

Abdullah Ali was also sentenced to two years’ imprisonment, to run concurrently, for possession of ammunition and Adam Ali was also jailed for six months’ imprisonment for possession of ammunition, to run concurrently.
