A memorial service is planned on July 10 for a rising Hampton motorcyclist who died after an horrific on-track accident.

Guy Sanders, 22, a former pupil at the independent Reeds school in Cobham, was hit by two riders travelling in excess of 100mph after falling off his bike during the British Supersport race on June 17 at Mondello Park race circuit in Dublin.

Trackside medics managed to resuscitate him twice, but he had suffered critical neck, head and chest injuries, and was pronounced dead in hospital five hours later.

Richard Garrett, development and marketing director at Reeds, is a close family friend and taught him before he attended Newcastle University.

He said: "Guy was a character with great talent in his chosen field.

"He was greatly loved by his many friends, who are all united in support of his family. There have been a succession of calls and visits to Reeds School by Guy's contemporaries. All are struggling to come to terms with what has happened."

Guy was on the brink of achieving his dream, after being told he would make his debut in the flagship British Superbikes Championship at this weekend's meeting in Knockhill.

Former team boss James Jackson said: "Guy's presence was second to none.

"The commitment and enthusiasm he applied to his own life drove everyone around him to go on and achieve more," he said.

"His infectious sense of humour and mischievous way of life touched all who met him."

Jackson and Sanders' family have not blamed Steven Neate and Jamie Hamilton - the two other riders involved in the accident - who both suffered minor injuries.

Tributes have flooded in on Sanders' team website gearlinkracing.com and hundreds of guests are expected to attend a memorial service at the school in Sandy Lane, Cobham on Tuesday, July 10.

The service will start at noon in the school's chapel, followed by friends and family celebrating his life in a neighbouring marquee.

He is survived by dad Derek, mum Carole and brother Adam.
