X-Factor hopeful and Kingston resident Gifty Louise has spoken of her shock after being eliminated from Simon Cowell’s popular entertainment show.

The singer, who lives in the Cambridge Road estate, was voted off by the judges after a sing-off during Sunday night's results programme, a result surprising many viewers.

She was beaten in the sing off to Hersham singer Lauren Rammell, 22, and her girlband Four Of Diamonds.

Mr Cowell, the renowned music mogul who mentored Gifty, blamed himself during the show, saying it was his song choice that lead to her shock elimination.

Boos rang out from the audience after Gifty Louise was sent home.

Speaking on Good Morning Britain, Gifty, 20, said: "I felt like they had made up their mind that, you know, 'I think Gifty has to go'."

"I felt like I'd been very consistent every single week - I don't feel like I've had a bad week. I was shocked.”

Gifty found herself in the bottom two after Saturday's show, where she sang I'm In Love With A Monster – a cover of mentor Simon Cowell's US group Fifth Harmony.

She gave a rousing rendition of A Song For You by Ray Charles in the sing-off, but it was not enough to beat girl band Four Of Diamonds.

Ms Rammall and the Four Of Diamonds are now through to week five of the live shows.

The singer was talent spotted aged nine while performing on Hersham Village green, going on to play the part of young Cosette in Les Misérables at the Queen’s Theatre when she was just ten years old.

She attended the Susan Roberts Academy (SRA) of performing arts on a scholarship, whilst studying at Rydens School in Hersham.

Mum Nikki Broadway, 50, said: "Lauren has always loved to sing from a young age, she was able to hit the high notes of Queen’s ‘Somebody to Love’, she had a big voice for a little girl, which is why she got so much attention.

“She is very dedicated, she would go from Rydens straight to SRA every week day and often gave up her weekends to perform.”

The Four Of Diamonds failed to make the final twelve on X-Factor despite impressing mentor Louis Walsh, but the girls were given a second chance when Brooks Way unexpectedly left the competition.

The other members of the girl group are Sophia Saffarian, 19, Caroline Alvares, 19, and Yasemin Lauryn, 17.

Gifty appeared speechless as she was told she was out of the ITV competition, but Cowell quickly told her: "It was my mistake. I should never have given you that song.

"You should never have been out of the competition at this point. It's not you, it's me."

Speaking yesterday, Gifty admitted she had not felt "too great" about singing the song.

This year’s show was her second attempt at X Factor success - she made it to the last round of boot camp in 2015, but lost her voice before the final performance.
