A shop assistant was punched in the face after he challenged a suspected thief at a Wandsworth petrol station. 

Detectives have released CCTV footage of a man they are hunting in connection with the assault at the petrol station in Queenstown Road.

The attack took place after the 25-year-old shop assistant challenged a man he suspected of stealing an item from the store.

The suspect punched the victim in the face before escaping on a bicycle towards Chelsea Bridge.

Police have described the suspect as a black man with a bald head and a short beard.

He was wearing one white trainer and one black trainer, a grey hooded jumper, black jogging bottoms and was carrying a black ‘Umbro’ holdall.

The victim did not need medical treatment following the assault, which took place at about 5.25pm on Wednesday, May 11.
