Racegoers sent Queen Elizabeth II a special birthday message at the first race meeting of the season at Epsom Downs racecourse today.
A total of 150 people formed a mosaic of the Royal Silks with purple body, gold braid, scarlet sleeves, and black velvet cap with gold fringe, which has been worn to victory on the Downs many times in the past.
From April: Free tickets for volunteers to send birthday message to Queen Elizabeth II at Epsom Downs
Epsom Downs held its first races of the 2016 season on Wednesday, April 20 – one day before the Queen’s 90th birthday.
Simon Durrant, general manager at Epsom Downs racecourse said: “Racing is incredibly lucky to have Her Majesty as one of its greatest fans and it seemed fitting that Epsom Downs, as a course that has been honoured to have played host to Her Majesty many times throughout her reign, should be the scene of this special birthday message.
“We are delighted so many people from the local community came to help us create this message to Her Majesty and we look forward to welcoming her to the Investec Derby again in June.”
