An Epsom nursing home has been criticised by health regulators, who have said it needs to improve its service in three of five key areas.

Rosebery Manor, in Reigate Road, Epsom, was also told it ‘requires improvement’ overall, in a report by the Care and Quality Commission (CQC) released on Wednesday, December 30.

From March: Owner of Banstead care home rated "inadequate" confident it will not be closed down

The report - based on an unannounced inspection on October 7 - suggested the home needs to become safer, the care more effective and the service better-led.

It was rated 'good' in categories relating to how caring and responsive the care is.

However Rosebery Manor responded by pointing to a 98 per cent satisfaction rating in its most recent independent survey.

Since the inspection, Laura Dowd has replaced Judy Addison as nurse general manager.

The CQC report read: "Risks to people were not always managed well. People were not always protected from foreseeable harm arising from healthcare concerns.

"Risk assessments for people were not regularly reviewed to ensure staff had the most up-to-date information.

"People could be at risk of harm from developing pressure wounds as staff did not ensure they turned or repositioned people as often as they should.

"Suitable arrangements were not in place to ensure that medicines were managed safely. Gaps were present in some medicine recording and medicines remained in the packets when staff had signed to say it had been administered.

"Medicines stored in people’s rooms were not always secure and temperatures of storage areas were not consistently monitored."

A Rosebery Manor spokesperson said: "We welcome the recommendations made by CQC and continue to deliver our action plan under the leadership of our new nurse general manager, Laura Dowd to ensure that we implement standards of excellence.

"In our most recent independent survey, our residents gave a 98 per cent satisfaction rating in respect of the staff and the facilities within the home.

"As a responsible provider of social care we have our own internal Quality Assurance Programme which continually seeks to deliver improvements within all areas of our operation."

Rosebery Manor provides care for up to 95 people, and at the time of inspection there were 71 people living at Rosebery Manor, 65 of whom required personal or nursing care.
