Two men have been jailed for a total of 11 years after police saw them handing over large amounts of drugs on two occasions in Epping.

Tommy Green, 27, and Lawrence Wood, 23, were imprisoned for seven and four years respectively when they appeared at St Albans Crown Court on Friday (November 13).

Cocaine with a street value of up to £205,000 and amphetamine worth between £7,350 and £14,700 was seized by police in their investigations.

On March 12, Green, of Coxes Farm Road, Billericay, was seen delivering a package to a man in a Citroen Berlingo in an Epping pub car park.

When the car was stopped on the M11 in Cambridgeshire, police officers found a black package under the driver’s seat containing the amphetamine.

On May 22, Green was seen with Wood, of Rochford Avenue in Debden, pulling into the Hobbs Cross Golf Centre in Epping.

Green handed just under a kilo of cocaine to Wood, who was then followed by police officers to Theydon Bois.

He tried to run away when the officers went to arrest him, but he was caught shortly afterwards.

The judge said phone evidence showed Green was supplying the cocaine to Wood on behalf of a third party.

Green pleaded guilty to supplying amphetamine and conspiracy to supply cocaine.

He had been jailed in May 2013 for conspiracy to supply Class A drugs and was released in April 2014.

Wood pleaded guilty to conspiracy to supply cocaine and to possessing two small amounts of drugs for personal use.

Representing Green, Andrew Turton said he had become involved with drugs again because of his previous court case.

On that occasion the police seized £90,000 that he had handed over for what he thought were drugs – instead it turned out to be plaster.

Mr Turton said: “When he came out of prison, those whose money it was came after him and he agreed to become involved to pay off the debt.

“He is in a dreadful position.”

In court, Wood was described as a courier who knew what he was doing but played a lesser role.

Court recorder Patrick Field said: “You were both willingly involved in drug dealing, which causes misery and destruction to others, for your own benefit.”
