Two men are in hospital with stab wounds after an early morning attack.

Staines Road, Twickenham, was closed after the 4.10am double stabbing which left two men, whose ages are unknown, with hand and head injuries.

A third man has been arrested and is in police custody. The injuries were not thought to be life-threatening.

Local rumours that a man had been shot dead were denied by police.

Police cordoned off the road until about midday

Debbie Baker, who works at the Premier Inn opposite the crime scene and lives in nearby Fulwell Park Avenue, said there had been a party held at the house in which the two men were stabbed.

She said two young men came into the Premier Inn at about 7.30am from the party and told her one man had been stabbed in the hand and another had injured his head outside a ‘half-way house’ for people with mental health issues.

She said: “I think there was a party at the corner house and I don’t know whether it got out of order or whatever but I think the landlord got stabbed.

"There were lots of young girls in there and I think they were taking drugs.”

She said she had been told a man came at them with a knife and the landlord had smashed his head on a gate.

She added: “The lads that came in here were just going to the party but they weren’t involved.

"They must have come in at about 7.30am.

"They were lovely boys and not involved at all, just in the wrong place at the wrong time.

"I have lived here for 20 years and we don’t get any trouble, it is the first I have seen.

"It is lucky someone wasn’t killed because this knife crime is just awful."

Gagan Toor, who owns nearby Willow Wines and lives near the house, said he did not notice a disturbance during the night and the police forensics team had arrived by the time he woke up.

Mr Toor said: "They have got this halfway house over there and I just heard someone got stabbed.

"I live here myself and didn’t hear anything during the night.

"In the morning all the forensics guys were here by the time I woke up.

"You don’t really get anything like this round here normally."

Forensic officers were still in Staines Road this afternoon as part of the investigation meaning the road was still closed in both directions.

Routes 110, 490 and H22 were subject to diversion and delays in both directions at Staines Road, Twickenham.
