A short documentary charting the work of Teddington’s famous street artist the Phantom Framer was screened at Twickenham Alive Film Festival on Friday.
The Phantom Framer, who has been decorating street signs in Teddington with ornate gold frames for months, has caught the attention of the national media and was exclusively revealed by the Richmond and Twickenham Times in May to be from frame shop But is it Art... on Teddington’s High Street.
Freelance filmmaker Rhodri Williams contacted the Framer via Twitter after monitoring his work and used conversations over Skype to help create the short film, screened at Friday’s Twickenham Alive Film Festival, but admitted he was not entirely convinced about the Framer’s mission at first.
He said: “At first I wasn’t really sure. It didn’t really bother me but once I had chatted to them and saw their reasons behind it – stopping people just looking at their phones and noticing the environments around them – I started to be a much bigger supporter.”
The Phantom Framer said he was delighted with the film.
He said: “I was at the film festival and really enjoyed it. I may be a bit biased but I think the phantom film stood out from the rest.”

He said the framing has slowed down slightly of late as someone has been dismantling his work.
The Phantom Framer said: “At the moment I'm trying to devise a security system that makes them hard to remove, but still maintaining that we don't damage the signs.”
