A Kingston police officer was nearly run over after he tried to stop a drugs suspect driving off in a car.

PC Alex Christie injured his foot trying to stop the Fiat at about midday today in Avenue Road, Kingston.

Luckily the officer, from Kingston town centre’s new police team, did not suffer a serious injury.

He was taken to Kingston A&E with a sprain and soft tissue damage.

The driver escaped but police were able to seize the car.

No arrests have been made but enquiries continue.

Police Sergeant Dave Williams, from the Kingston town centre team, said: “We would like to speak to the driver in connection with this incident.

“The suspect is described as male, dark skinned with short afro hair and a trimmed beard.”

Anyone with information should contact police on 101.
