Colleagues dressed up and took to the streets to raise more than £1,000 for the Alzheimer’s Society in a single day.

The Peldon Rose workplace consultant’s employees took shifts throughout the day collecting money for the charity outside Wimbledon Station donning blue wigs and feather boas to attract attention.

Scott Alexander, a marketing assistant at Peldon Rose, said: "We were amazed. We thought we had raised £300 or £400 maybe, so it was a shock when we found it we had raised £1,025."

Each year the Worple Road-based company, which specialises in creating office interiors, chooses a charity to raise money for which is decided by a staff survey.

Mr Alexander said: "Many members of our staff here have family members who are affected by Alzheimer’s disease.

"Last year we raised £20,000 for the MS Society and we hope to match that total for Alzheimer’s this year," he said.

The company has a number of events planned this year to raise money. A member of staff is competing in a triathlon to help raise funds, and another is going to hike up Mount Kilimanjaro later in the year.

The fundraising drive took place on Tuesday, May 19.
