Green-fingered children at a Twickenham primary school have been awarded a special prize for "growing their own lunch".
Children at Trafalgar Infant School were awarded the grow around the world prize for their Tanzania-inspired lunch using vegetables grown at the school, and are raising money for a vegetable garden in the African country.
Rachel Hutchins, sustainability teacher, said: "Our children were thrilled to win. They filled their growing beds with new produce such as okra, chickpeas and coriander and then cooked up delicious recipes for all to try."
The prize was awarded by expert judges, including previous Blue Peter gardener Chris Collins and chief executive of Garden Organic, James Campbell.
Collins said of the children’s work: "Trafalgar Infant School stood out as real global citizens, demonstrating that food is [a] connector of people, cultures and creativity."
