A gunman who forced his way into a home and shot the two people inside is facing jail after being found guilty of GBH.

Between them the victims of the attack in Kingsdown Avenue, Purley, received 16 gunshot wounds and the investigating officer said it is ‘sheer luck’ they survived.

Zarak McKoy, 23, will be sentenced at Croydon Crown Court on March 18 for GBH and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

McKoy and another man burst into the property at about 3am on July 6 last year and shot a 20-year-old woman and her 19-year-old boyfriend before fleeing the scene.

Police arrested McKoy 10 days later but the other man, who is believed to be the ex-partner of the 20-year-old victim, has never been found.

The shooting happened a short time after the woman had refused to let a man, who was known to her into the house, because she was in fear for her safety.

The pair had a heated argument through the locked front door before this man left.

McKoy, of Hambrook Road, South Norwood, was found guilty of the two charges after a five week trial at Croydon Crown Court but he was found not guilty of attempted murder.

DC Peter Whibley, Trident Shootings Team, said: “McKoy went out that morning intent on causing fear and intimidation.

“When the victim did not open the door, he forced his way into the address and without hesitation repeatedly shot her and her boyfriend.

“The injuries that both victims received were significant.

“Between them they received 16 gunshot wounds.

“It is sheer luck that they survived these injuries."
