A dog drifting on a narrow boat by Trowlock Island was rescued by a lifeboat crew on December 30.

The RNLI crew, which included appropriately named Teddington helmsman Jon Barker, found the boat drifting downstream opposite the island with all hatches closed and nobody on board apart from the dog.

The narrow boat was called Whoops-a-daisy.

The crew towed it back to shore where police was waiting, and the owner was contacted.

Crew member James Kavanagh said: “The dog was fine and delighted to be let out. We gave him some food and nicknamed him ‘Lucky’.

“It was a lovely rescue to end the year.”
