We are very concerned about the amount of flats being built in Broad Green, which is having the effect of choking this already saturated area and with no apparent plans for any green space for recreation or leisure.

Parking is already at a premium; doctors’ surgery are feeling the strain with people waiting three weeks plus for appointments, we are informed.

We are shocked that a 10-storey block is being built at the corner of Bensham Lane and London Road; another block is going up on the site of the former pub just opposite; another at the bottom of Sumner Road; yet another at the corner of St James’s Road by the one-way system; development is due to start at the former DSS building a little way down (Concord House).

Now, planning notice has been given of another block going up at the corner of St James' Road and London Road.

Equipment is already on site, which probably means this is a fait accompli, although the so-called “planning application” notice is still pending.

I am aware that housing is needed in the borough, but why are there so many housing projects being given the go-ahead in this already densely populated and deprived area? Where is the green space for recreation; considerations about current residents’ concerns for parking, etc?

This does not go on in south or East Croydon and the less deprived areas. Why dump all these social housing needs in Broad Green?

We would like the council to meet with us to discuss this important issue.
