The Labour Party Action Team in Ashburton have been talking to residents on the doorstep, the phone and at public meetings for over three years. As you can imagine in that time many people have asked us for help with council issues, especially when they’ve had no joy with their present Tory councillors or MP.
We have therefore built up very good relationships with the non political civil servants that work behind the scenes in the new luxury HQ.
We have co-operated with many members of staff right up to the highest director level, they have been quick to help us and treat us seriously; and we thank them for that.
This experience has shown us that the vast majority of council staff are hard working individuals who have Croydon’s best interest at heart. Unfortunately they can only work with the resources their Conservative political masters give them and along lines they dictate. So whenever you blame the council for something think who’s really responsible, and who sets the tone and morale that staff work under.
