A man is in police custody after being tackled by a member of the public following an alleged attempted bank robbery in Coulsdon yesterday.
The 46-year-old was stopped by a man, thought to be a builder working on a nearby site, after fleeing Lloyds Bank in Brighton Road at around 2.50pm.
The builder held the would-be robber until police arrived and arrested him.
Officers found an imitation gun near the scene.
The 46-year-old remains in police custody on suspicion of attempted robbery.
Officers from the Metropolitan Police's Flying Squad are investigating.
