A driver has been taken to hospital after his car crashed into a tree early this morning.

His silver Vauxhall Corsa crashed into a tree in Woodlands Road, near the Queen Elizabeth Training College, Leatherhead, just after 4am.

The man was airlifted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting.

The road was closed in both directions between Oaklawn Road and Cobham Road while emergency services attended the scene.

A Leatherhead fire station spokesman said they removed the roof of the car after being called to the crash at 4.24am.

He said: “We extricated the casualty out of the vehicle and placed him in the hands of the ambulance services.”

Firefighters returned to the station at 5.50am.
