Motor scooters, Minis and Maseratis were treated to a spot of pampering by the 1st Cobham Cub Scouts.

Youngsters from the troop grabbed sponges, hoses and car shampoo to give vehicles a once over at Painshill fire station on Saturday, November 16, for a donation towards the aid effort in the Philippines.

From 10am to 4pm, firemen, leaders, cubs and some mums and dads worked hard to raise £1,385 for the appeal through ShelterBox, the charity supported by the Scout movement.

Cubs were inspired to join in by leader Alyson Menke, after she asked them to imagine what it would be like to survive without food and drink and to sleep on cold, muddy ground.

Ms Menke, known as Akela to cub scouts, said: “We were amazed at the generosity and support we received from the people of Cobham. We hoped to raise at least £480, which is the cost of one ShelterBox, but we have enough to pay for nearly three.”

ShelterBoxes contain a tent designed to withstand extreme weather conditions, a water purification kit, blankets, tools, and other necessities to help a family survive after a disaster.
