Dancers from the English Youth Ballet (EYB) performed part of the Nutcracker suite for young patients at St George’s Hospital on Thursday.

Children on the Lanesborough Wing were treated to a 45-minute workshop conducted by two of the English Youth Ballet's principal dancers and other members of the cast ahead of their production of Tchaikovsky’s The Nutcracker at The New Wimbledon Theatre next week.

The EYB cast will be joined by 24 up-and-coming ballet dancers from Wimbledon who were selected at an audition in June from over 250 other young hopefuls.

The aspiring ballet stars will dance alongside EYB’s international principal artists and gain an insight into what life is like for a professional ballet dancer.

Eight-year-old Toby Brett from Merton Park said: "The thing I am most looking forward to about performing with English Youth Ballet is dancing on a big stage.

"When I grow up I would like to be a footballer but I think I still want to do ballet just for fun." The EYB will be performing at the New Wimbledon Theatre on November 8 and 9.
