Former X Factor winner Matt Cardle is coming to Kingston for an intimate live show in the week his latest album is released, writes Ross Logan.

The Essex heartthrob will be coming to Banquet Records in Eden Street on Friday, November 1 to mark the launch of his third solo album Porcelain.

The 30-year-old former painter and decorator virtually walked to the 2010 X Factor title, receiving the most viewer votes in every week except one.

But unlike previous winners Steve Brookstein, Shayne Ward, Leon Jackson and Joe McElderry, Cardle has not sunk without trace, carving out a career for himself away from the iron-like pop grip of X Factor svengali Simon Cowell.

After hitting the Christmas number one spot with his X Factor-backed debut single When We Collide, a re-titled cover of Biffy Clyro’s Many of Horror, Cardle soon split with Cowell’s Syco label and has been writing and recording music of his own.

He has two top 10 albums to his name, and will be hoping Porcelain can repeat the trick.

Banquet Records manager Jon Tolley says: “In the week of the release of his third album, Porcelain, Matt Cardle joins us in the shop for a short but special acoustic performance.

“This is different to our usual stuff – but Matt’s a skateboarder like me so he’s OK with me.”
