Leatherhead may have had to deal with traffic chaos this week, but the Tanners still left manager Richard Brady purring over their best performance since he took charge two years ago.

Tailbacks on the M25 on Saturday meant Brady had just seven players half an hour before their FA Cup second qualifying round tie with Binfield, and then a broken down car meant four of his team didn't turn up for Monday's game with Hastings United until just before kick-off.

Despite the problems though, the Tanners still beat Binfield 2-1 thanks to Tom Bradbrook's last minute free kick and drew 2-2 with fellow Ryman Division One South high-fliers Hastings United in the league.

And although they needed another late Bradbrook strike to rescue a point on the south coast, the display had Brady waxing lyrical about his side.

"It was an incredible performance, the best performance since I have been manager," he said.

"We could have won 5-2 and it would have been a travesty if we hadn't got a draw, even Hastings admitted we were better than them.

"I had to reshuffle and bring in new players but we were fantastic.

"I knew we had played well but for the other manager and team to say we were the best side they had played meant a lot.

"It almost seems like a little bit of stardust came down on us in the cup with everything that happened.

"Whatever we seem to do, we come out smiling."

Bradbrook's equaliser at Hastings was his third in two games having earlier put them ahead and also scoring against Binfield, where Ian Draycott got the Tanners' first.

Victory set up a third qualifying round tie with Southern League Biggleswade Town on October 12, but with the Tanners facing Harlow Town in the FA Trophy this Saturday, they do not have another league game until October 19.

"It would be great to get through and it wouldn't at the same time, we are losing sight of the league with all these cup games," added Brady.

"We go into every game to win it but we are going to start creating a fixture backlog with 46 league games this year.

"We tend to do well in the cups and people get carried away but all of a sudden you are five games behind the others in the league and then it becomes difficult to play three games every week for a month and people wonder why you drop points."
