Wandsworth police have paid tribute to a colleague who was killed in a hit-and-run last week.

PC Andrew Duncan, a Merton traffic officer, was killed after being run over in the early hours of September 20, in Reigate Avenue, Sutton.

The father of two, who lived in East Molesey, had previously worked in Battersea for six years.

Wandsworth police's acting Borough Commander Paul McGregor said: "As Acting Borough Commander  in Wandsworth I would echo the words of the Commissioner concerning the tragic death of PC Andy Duncan.

"We are shocked at the news of the death of a colleague made even more poignant as he served at  Battersea between 1990 and 1996.

"Our thoughts are very much with the family, colleagues and friends at this time."

Nick Jennings, a former colleague who now lives in Perth, Australia, expressed his sadness at the news.

He said: "I had the privilege to work alongside Andy during my time with the Met and shared many a cup of tea with this great guy in the canteen at Battersea and Lavender Hill.

"His dry sense of humour is something which sticks in my mind and he was just a top man.

"After we both left Battersea I remember bumping into him over the years and always sharing a laugh and a joke.  RIP Andy God Bless."

Three people have been arrested following his death, while a third man has been charged.

Gary Bromige, 25, of South Norwood, was charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident and driving without insurance yesterday.

Two men, aged 19 and 23, were arrested on Sunday evening and have been bailed until a date in October.

On Saturday a woman was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice and two more men were arrested last night. The woman has been bailed until a date in October.
