TV broadcaster Angela Rippon joined charity walkers in a bid to end the stigma around dementia.
The Memory Walk took place in Battersea Park on Sunday and helped to raise about £125,000 for the Alzheimer's Society.
A total of 700 people took part in either a 2 mile walk around the park or a 10 mile walk along the Thames Path.
Some walkers donned fancy dress costumes, including tutus, fairy wings and colourful wigs.
Eileen's Angels, a group of six women, raised £500 in aid of their mum who has dementia.
Kate Wise, of Fulham, said: "Our mum has dementia and other family members have also had it.
"Raising the profile of the condition is also very important, it has such a huge effect on the whole family and I think it’s something the government needs to focus on, especially as people are living longer."
Angela Rippon said: "Events like this are very important, they take a huge step forward to ensure as a society we breakdown the stigma around the disease and show everyone that it is possible to live well with dementia."
Participants were provided with entertainment from former Hear'Say singer Danny Foster and the Soul Corporation.
