Robbers have left empty handed this morning after an attempted snatch of money from a van outside Tesco Express, Plough Green.
A store worker, who did not want to be named, confirmed an attempted snatch had taken place outside the store in Malden Road between Worcester Park and Old Malden.
She said: “There was an attempted snatch of money from a van. Nothing to do with our cash point. Nothing was stolen. It was nothing to do with us."
An employee from nearby Joanne Chandler hairdressers, who also declined to be named, said: "Apparently the security van man – someone attacked him as he was coming out of Tesco.
"We saw after the police arrived. They drove off, they weren’t caught."
Earlier Rachel Turner tweeted at 10.54am: "Some guys just tried to raid the security van outside tescos ...it's all drama round Worcester park nowadays."
A spokesman for Kingston police said: "We can confirm that today at 10.24am police were called to an attempted cash in transit robbery in Malden Road.
"Enquiries are ongoing."
