Firefighters battled to prevent an explosion at a petrol station yesterday after a pick-up truck began leaking fuel.
Liquefied petroleum gas leaked from a GMC pickup truck at Texaco petrol station in Givons Grove, Leatherhead, at about 2.10pm.
A Leatherhead fire station spokesman said they initially tried to use a special bung and putty to stop the leak without success.
He said: "We tried many things to try to stop the leak which were not very successful so we dispersed the gas and vented it off."
He said they believed a broken valve in the fuel tank had caused the leak, adding: "It was a possible explosion risk."
Liquefied petroleum gas is a flammable mixture of hydrocarbon gases used as a fuel in vehicles and heating appliances.
