Floral tributes to a killed policeman have been left at the spot where he was knocked down in a hit-and-run.

PC Andrew Duncan, 47, was hit by a car in Reigate Avenue, near the Rosehill Roundabout in Sutton in the early hours of Friday morning. He died from his injuries in hospital over the weekend.

Several bunches of flowers have been left by friends, colleagues and well-wishers at the spot where the incident happened. One of the tributes calls PC Duncan a "true gentleman" and says "it was a pleasure to serve with you".

Gary Bromidge, 25, of Holland Road, South Norwood, is due to appear in court charged with causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, failing to report an accident and driving without insurance this morning.

Two further men were arrested in connection with the investigation on Sunday evening and are in police custody. A woman was arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice on Saturday and has been bailed until a date in October.

PC Duncan, known to friends as Andy, lived in East Molesey in Surrey with his wife, son and daughter. As a traffic officer, he was based at the police garage in Merton when he was killed.

Prior to joining the South West Traffic Unit in 2004, he worked in Hammersmith and Fulham and started his police career in Battersea in 1990.

High ranking police officers including Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Bernard Horgan-Howe have paid tribute to him. Sir Bernard called him a "hard working and courageous policeman".

Sutton Borough Commander Chief Surperintendent Guy Ferguson added: "I have received a significant number of goodwill messages in support of PC Andrew Duncan who died when doing the job he loved after a collision on the A217 Reigate Avenue in Sutton on Friday.

PC Duncan was knocked down just before 1am on Friday by a black Volkswagen Golf he tried to flag down. He was taken to hospital with multiple injuries including a broken neck but died on Sunday.

Police seized a black VW Golf in that had been dumped in Hyde Walk, Merton, hours after the incident. Bromige was arrested later on Friday and charged on Sunday.
